Makaylah Johnson, LMSW

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
— Carl Rogers
Makaylah believes that meaningful growth begins with understanding and accepting ourselves, even the parts we may find difficult to embrace. Therapy offers a space where clients can slow down, explore their experiences, and begin to understand themselves with greater compassion. Clients do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Wherever they are on their journey, they deserve to feel heard, understood, and accepted.
Makaylah's approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that each person has the capacity for growth and change. She strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions, work through challenges, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. She draws from several therapeutic approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to meet each client's individual needs.
She enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a range of challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, panic disorder, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and stress. She also provides gender-affirming care and supports clients in exploring their LGBTQ+ identities in a safe, affirming, and supportive environment.
Prior to joining private practice, she worked in acute and residential psychiatric settings, supporting individuals with diverse and complex mental health needs. These experiences strengthened her clinical assessment skills and deepened her understanding of the many ways people experience and navigate emotional distress.
Whether clients are feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges, working through past experiences, or hoping to better understand themselves, she approaches each therapeutic relationship with curiosity, compassion, and respect for each person's unique journey.
Makaylah believes everyone deserves a space where they can show up as they are, without judgment or expectations. If this feels like the kind of support you're looking for, please reach out as she is looking forward to connecting with you!
